Fertility Preservation

There are many reasons why people may explore services that preserve their ability to have children in the future. Some women consider egg or embryo freezing to help them retain the ability to have children at a later age.

Cancer treatment may also result in the loss of ability to have biological children, since many of the drugs and therapies for the disease could have a negative impact on the reproductive system. We work with you to preserve your ability to have biological children whenever possible. This includes treatment for patients of all ages, from prepubescent children to adults.

Similarly, hormonal transition for transgender patients can make eggs or sperm less effective. Increasingly, patients undergoing gender transition are taking advantage of fertility preservation procedures as part of their gender-affirmation process.

Fertility preservation is also available during treatment for diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune conditions, which may result in diminished reproductive ability. Ask your doctor how your treatment plan may affect your fertility in the future.

At Stanford, we offer many options for fertility preservation:

For more than 20 years, Stanford has been a leader in treatment and innovation for patients seeking fertility preservation.
