So you’re probably sick of hearing about COVID-19.

Most of us are.

It's tough.

A lot of people wonder if they should get sick so they can get over it.

Now, before you ask yourself the question, the answer is NO.

Should you try to get infected?

Again, the answer is a strong, simple NO.

Here are three reasons why.

One: You may get sicker than you think you will.

No matter how healthy or young you are, that’s no guarantee.

And there’s a good chance COVID-19 could you make so sick that you’ll need to be treated in a hospital that’s already low on resources that you and so many others may need.

There's even a chance you could die.

Two: You could be the reason other people get sick with COVID-19.

It can take up to 14 days for symptoms to show up.

During those 14 days, you could spread the disease to your friends, family, coworkers, or the cashier or delivery guy you saw today.

Some of them could get very sick and need intensive care.

And some of them could die.

Three: It’s not proven that you’ll be immune after you recover.

COVID-19 is a new virus, and we’re still learning about it.

We just don’t know for sure that if you get it, you’ll be immune.

Plus there's evidence that even if you didn't get really sick, your lungs could be damaged.

Think you’re strong and healthy enough to take on COVID-19?

Think again: One, you may get sicker than you think.

Two, you could be the reason other people get sick.

And, three, getting it once doesn’t guarantee you won’t get it again.

Instead, take the steps to avoid getting it and spreading it to others.

Yes, thinking about COVID-19 and what it might mean to your family and to your community can be scary.

But it can help to know that medical scientists are working right now to find safe, effective treatments and a vaccine.

Protecting yourself by social distancing, wearing a mask, and washing your hands helps everyone stay healthy.

With patience, care, and a little time, we'll get through this.
