Prenatal, Infant and Child

The Perinatal Education Program at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford is designed to support every member of your family through the entire perinatal journey from before birth to after baby arrives. We offer a broad spectrum of classes taught by our skilled and certified instructors in both online and in-person formats.

We are currently only offering perinatal classes in an online format. If you have any questions, please contact

Childbirth Prep Class

Our Childbirth Prep Class focuses on labor and delivery of the baby, providing an overview and emphasizing the many variations of normal birth. Taught by a certified childbirth educator, we will explore practical information through thought-provoking dialogues; have a frank discussion on pain in labor and how to proactively cope with it; directly explore some of the “what-if’s,” medical interventions, and proactive techniques to reduce the potential of needing them.

Breastfeeding Seminar

Our prenatal Breastfeeding Seminar is a 2-hour lecture and discussion with a certified lactation consultant. This seminar includes orientation to successful breastfeeding, tips on dealing with the challenges of the early weeks, how both partners can participate in feeding the baby even though only one may be breastfeeding, pumping & storage of breast milk, and more.

Newborn Care 101

Often touted as our "most fun" class, this program covers the specifics of newborn care. Topics include bathing, temperature-taking, newborn reflexes and behavior, common newborn appearances, diapering, swaddling, soothing, feeding techniques, and more.

Infant Safety

Our Infant Safety Class prepares new parents, grandparents, and other childcare providers for various aspects of newborn safety. Our Infant Safety Class will cover the following topics regarding newborn safety: car seats, cribs and sleep arrangements, poison prevention, environmental safety in the home.
